The next week mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, my father had surgery twice that week for kidney stones (he only has one kidney due to complications from his aorta aneurysm 3 years ago), I had a questionable place removed and biopsied from my forehead that came back as skin cancer (thankfully caught in the early stages) and I found out the last week of April that I won the full scholarship to pay for my flight instructor rating. What a roller coaster and I give thanks to the Lord for sustaining me.
I took off from work starting May 16th to take care of my mom and pop during her cancer treatments. She cares for my father, I am an only child and she needed all the help she could get. I saved my leave at work for 18 years in case I ever needed to use it for my folks. Thank you to my student teacher Aislinn Lucas who finished up her placement from EMU and then came on to finish up the year for me. Thank you to Heather Amon for picking up the work load at TA while I was gone. May you have a restful summer!
Our log home needed staining this year so I managed to stain on days between the rain as I bounced back and forth from my own home and my folks. Tony even helped and he HATES to paint! Felt so good to move back home last week as we celebrated mom's last cancer treatment! She rang the bell, hugged all her nurses and was surprised at how emotional she was at the end. She is doing well and so appreciative of the help from everyone. I am grateful for the health care folks at Augusta Medical and the Augusta Health Center. What a great team! Mom has great friends who are helping her when I cannot be around and I thank all of you (Terri, Jean, Diane, Linda)!
Mom let me take her flying last week for the 1st time! It was incredible. Her friend Jean wanted to go up so we went up to see if it was smooth and clear. It was perfect and Mom said yes! What a way to celebrate her last treatment! Thank you mom for letting me share the world of aviation with you. I was hooked a long time ago and so glad you overcame your fear of flying. I told her there are not too many moms that can say their daughter took them flying. What a special day that I will remember forever!
I leave Wed to fly myself to Wichita, Kansas to see Rich and Janice for a couple of days! We biked across the USA in 2006 and have been friends ever since. Can't wait to see you both and I have wanted to fly that way for 3 years. Then I am on to Fort Collins, Colorado to earn my CFI rating (Certified Flight Instructor rating). So much studying since March! I will be staying on the field and totally immersing myself in my studies. Intense! All my written tests are completed and I am so thankful for the 99's HUGE investment in me to make this possible. I hope to make you all proud. Linda and Suzanne- you have been so encouraging to me the last few years and I say thank YOU! I look forward to teaching students how to fly in the plane in addition to the ground school instruction I started teaching through Blue Ridge Community College last year.
