Challenging airport (W91) to get into and so many folks said it is hard to see. They are correct! Even when I was in the downwind leg of the pattern I couldn't see it. Hard to land on runway when you can't find it to line yourself up. The runway is completely surrounded by trees. Tried several times to get in, there was a direct crosswind from the right and no ATIS on the field to tell me the winds. Thankfully my student was on the ground with a radio giving me wind updates. Once I did my first approach, the winds shifted to the other runway and caused my stall light to flicker on short final so I did a go-around. I cleared the trees, full flaps, slow, low and then the change in wind- always be ready for a go-around and I was ready. Finally got it down on the 3rd try. Tough and yet I was proud of my self and the skills I have developed in the last 4 years.
We enjoyed the day on the house boat, chilling on the beautiful dock he designed and built and then a delicious dinner with friends on his farm. We took off before dark into a stunning sunset on one side of the plane and a developing full moon on the other wing. Incredible day!
