The physical education classes are using the trail and community members are walking and jogging in the evenings. I had a huge smile on my face last night as I saw 2 young boys ride down the hill to the trail on their bikes (wearing their helmets!) and rode around the trail. A lady was jogging with her dog and someone else was walking. Keep spreading the word and tell people to come out and enjoy the gift our community has received from Farmers Insurance.
My adapted physical education class used the trail this week for the 1st time and my 10th grade classes completed a triathlon (swimming on scooters, running around the softball field and biking around the trail).
Partners is planning to have a crew working on the dirt edging around the track this weekend. RIght now we have some significant drop offs in places and the finishing touches will allow for a safer transition between the pavement and the grass. I want the mowers and tractors to be able to move over the trail without destroying the asphalt over the years. We already have some parts of the trail which have been hit by the mowers.
Students learning how to control a bike and ride in a straight line will be able to ride onto the grass without losing control. Next year we will be able to practice the required skill of off road recovery in driver education while riding bikes on our new trail.
Here are a few quotes from emails I received this week regarding the trail. So many people are thankful for our new trail. If you voted 1 day or multiple days, YOU built this trail and made this blessing possible for everyone. I want to say thank you to each person that made our Dream Trail come alive!
- I just wanted to let you know..... I biked around the new path yesterday with my grandsons and it was AWESOME! Thanks for all your hard work with the project!
- Just wanted to pass along a sincere thank you and congratulations once again for all of the hard work it has taken to make this project come alive. My wife and "little brother" rode our bikes on the trail last evening, and we were not the only ones using the trail. What a tremendous asset this project will be for the school and the larger community. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. I plan to try my first century ride this summer using the trail, boring I know, but much safer than the roadways and the scenery is not bad, thanks again.
